He was born June 3, 1933, in LaPorte, the son of Harold and Mable (Kipphut) Henning.
Richard retired from LaPorte School Corporation in 2002 and was a Realtor with Liston Brown Realty for 30 years. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where he served on the church council and the men’s club. He was a LaPorte High School graduate of 1952 and served four years in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. He was a past member of the LaPorte Jaycees, having received the Key Man Award in 1968, was an American Red Cross donor, and was a member of American Legion Post 83.
On Dec. 13, 1958, in LaPorte, he married Geraldine E. White, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Wendy I. (Shane) Sanders of Mt. Juliet, TN; a son, Scott A. Henning of LaPorte; two grandsons, Seth R. and Cole A. Sanders of Mt. Juliet; and a granddaughter from Wendy and Shane who will be born in May. Also surviving are two sisters, Barbara Brown and Beverly Crawford, both of LaPorte.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeffery A. Henning, in September 1964.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Helen Nusbaum officiating. Friends will be received on Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service. Interment will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, with full military honors by the LaPorte Honor Guard.
