Martin Schroeder, 1921-2012

Martin SchroederMr. Martin E. Schroeder, 91, of LaPorte, died peacefully in the home where he was born at 4:39 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2012. He was a Duneland Dialysis patient for three years, where the staff became family.

He was born April 14, 1921, in LaPorte to Martin and Gertrude (Nebelung) Schroeder, and lived in this area his entire life.

Mr. Schroeder was an assembler at Allis-Chalmers, LaPorte, for 42 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and was active in St. John’s Thrift Shop. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

On Nov. 29, 1947, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Lois Faulstich, who preceded him in death on April 10, 2008.

He is survived by two daughters, Sueann (David) Nauch of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Robina (Greg) Nowak of Rolling Prairie; eight grandchildren, Carrington Galen, Christine (Sean) Astin, David (Darcie) Harrell, Matthew Harrell, Andrew Harrell, Katie Harrell, Jennifer (Ardrian) Grise, and Jonathan (Candace) Nowak; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Wolfe of Rolling Prairie; five brothers, Howard Schroeder of Lowell, IN, and Robert (June) Schroeder, Ervin (Marguerite) Schroeder, Charles (Joyce) Schroeder and Milton (Delores) Schroeder, all of Rolling Prairie; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 24, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Ronald Brauer officiating. Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Wednesday, May 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, LaPorte, following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Lutheran General Fund, 111 Kingsbury Ave., LaPorte, IN 46350.

    Dearest Sueann and Robin,

    Your Dad was a wonderful man with two wonderful daughters who not only respected but honored his wishes. It was a pleasure caring for him. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
