Free dental exams available to kids without dental insurance

iu healthThe IU Health LaPorte Dental Center will be busy in August with the return of the free school dental exam program for children without dental insurance. The exams meet the requirement of the LaPorte Community School Corporation and appointments are required.

Exams are available from 8-10 a.m. Aug. 4, 5, 7 and 8 and 4-6 p.m. Aug. 6 and 13. To make an appointment, call 219.326.1943.

During the exam, a dentist will do a visual exam, create a dental map of the child’s teeth and diagnose any decay or problems. Children who need follow-up care may be referred for follow-up appointments at the IU Health LaPorte Dental Center or a community dentist who can meet their needs. All children also will receive a free bag of dental-related gifts for participating.

The program is made possible by funding from the LaPorte Hospital Foundation Dental Fund.

The IU Health LaPorte Dental Center provides quality dental care to children and adults with low income and no dental insurance, focusing on educating children on prevention. The dental clinic accepts Medicaid patients. The center operates through the support of IU Health LaPorte Hospital and grants through the Indiana State Department of Health and the La Porte Hospital Foundation.
