Marcus Krachinski, the grandson of Cary and Sharon Kirkham of LaPorte and former Crichfield Cougar, now attends North Central, a 118-student high school in Powers, MI. Marcus plays on the North Central basketball team, which is riding the longest boys’ basketball winning streak in the nation.

A recent story in USA Today made note of the historic streak after two teams out West were recently beaten.

This has been a whirlwind high school sports career for not only Marcus, but his older brother, Max, who graduated last year. Between them (including basketball and football), they share a total of four state championships with a possible fifth on the horizon.

All five starters on the current team are seniors and all five are National Honor Society members. They captured their 69th straight victory Feb. 8, 2017. The team is 14-0 and has six games remaining in the regular season before the start of Michigan’s postseason tournaments. If the Jets can hold onto their perfect record, they’ll hit the playoffs riding a winning streak of 75 games.

Grandma and Grandpa Kirkham are Marcus’s biggest fans.
