Beechwood opens for season

Golfers can take advantage of the unusual weather as Beechwood Golf Course officially opened for the season Tuesday, March 7.

Spring rates are $20 with cart on weekdays and $25 with cart on weekends. The golf course and pro shop are also open as weather permits.

This year a new irrigation system is being installed at the municipal course. The old irrigation system was over 30 years old and reached a state of disrepair last year. Installation of the new system should not have too much impact on regular play, according to LaPorte Park and Recreation Department officials.

The historic course was developed in the 1930s after a generous donation of land to the city from LaPorte’s Fox family, also responsible for building and donating the LaPorte Civic Auditorium and donating the property for Fox Park.

Call ahead at 219-362-2651 for tee times or, in case of inclement weather, to find out if the course is open. For more information, visit
