LPHS Winter Guard hosts Midwest Championship — and wins it

The LaPorte High School Winter Color Guard received the Gold Medal for placing first in the Scholastic Open Class finals of the Midwest Color Guard Circuit Championship (MWCGC) April 1-2, 2017, at LPHS.

This is the 2nd year in a row LaPorte has been named circuit champion.  Complete class results for Scholastic Open Class:

  1. LaPorte 88.6
  2. Lake Central 79.0
  3. Chesterton 68.5

The guard will conclude this season by traveling to Dayton, OH, to compete in the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships April 6-8.  LaPorte will perform at 10:50 a.m. LaPorte time Thursday at the Wright State University Nutter Center. The Scholastic Open Class prelims will begin with 47 guards from across the country; 24 guards will advance to the semifinals to be held Friday at the University of Dayton Arena.  The top 15 scoring guards in semifinals will advance to the finals to be held Saturday at the University of Dayton Arena. LaPorte has been a WGI World Championship finalist four times.
