LP Healthcare Foundation announces scholarships available; apply now

The Healthcare Foundation of LaPorte takes great pride in offering scholarship awards to students in the LaPorte community, a tradition started by the LaPorte Hospital Foundation in 1983. In addition to multiple scholarships available through the foundation, scholarship opportunities funded by the LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary are also available through the same application process. Over $32,000 in scholarship funding will be awarded.

Applications for these scholarships are open March 31–May 7, 2017. Applications must be submitted prior to midnight on Sunday, May 7, and applicants will be notified of their award status on Monday, June 5. Scholarship awards will be presented to recipients at a reception in June (date and location to be finalized).

For all available scholarships, students must be pursuing careers in health and wellness fields and be enrolled at an accredited university, college or similar higher-learning institute.

Available scholarships and additional requirements include:

— Healthcare Foundation Scholarships – students must: be residents or be actively employed within the City of LaPorte and surrounding areas; be enrolled in their third year (junior) or higher, or be enrolled in a postgraduate healthcare program; have a GPA above 3.0. Scholarships include:

— Hrankja Scholarship: The Hrankja Scholarship was established with a bequest from Walter Hrankja. “Wally” was a longtime volunteer at LaPorte Hospital. Students must be enrolled in a bachelor of nursing program. One $1,000 scholarship available.

— Magnuson Scholarship: The Magnuson Scholarship was established with a bequest from Dr. John E. and Lillian R. Magnuson. Dr. Magnuson was a dentist in the LaPorte community and Lillian was a board member and honorary life member. Student must be an employee of LaPorte Hospital or LaPorte Physicians Network seeking an advanced degree in a healthcare program. One $1,000 scholarship available.

— Elizabeth & Eugene Siefker Scholarship: This scholarship is funded by Scott and Kim Siefker in honor of Elizabeth Siefker and in memory of Eugene Siefker. One $500 scholarship available.

— Richard M. Sisson Scholarship: This scholarship is funded by the Sisson family in memory of Richard Sisson. One $1,000 scholarship available.

 

— Radiologic/Medical Imaging: Students must be residents or be actively employed within the City of LaPorte and surrounding areas; be enrolled in Associate of Applied Science – Radiologic Technology; or, be enrolled in Associate of Science – Radiography; or, be enrolled in Bachelor of Science – Medical Imaging Technology; have a GPA above 3.0

— LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary Scholarships – students must: be enrolled in their freshman or sophomore year of college; be a graduate of a high school in LaPorte County, or employed by LaPorte Hospital or LaPorte Physicians. Available auxiliary scholarships include:

— Auxiliary Scholarships: Multiple $1,000 scholarships available to students who are applying for the first time.

— Auxiliary Scholarship Renewals: Multiple $1,000 scholarships available to sophomore students who received an Auxiliary Scholarship the previous year.

— Friend of Auxiliary Scholarship: The Friend of Auxiliary Scholarship is funded by an Auxiliary friend. One $1,000 scholarship available.

— Harold & Marcy Bowen Scholarship: Funded in memory of Harold & Marcy Bowen. One $1,000 scholarship available.
