Slicers now 6-1 on season after winning Mueller Baseball Classic

The LaPorte Slicers erupted for 14 runs on 15 hits to cruise past Highland, 14-3, in the final game of the Dr. Mueller Baseball Classic April 8, 2017, at Schreiber Field.

Jon Williams went 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs to lead the Slicers. Also contributing to the hit parade were Andy Samuelson (3 for 3), Peyton Riehle (2 for 3) and Will Malekovic (2 for 3). Nolan Lorenz got the win, pitching 5 innings. He gave up 3 hits on 3 walks while striking out 7.

In their opener of the classic April 7, the Slicers fought back to win in the bottom of the 7th, 6-5, over Elkhart Memorial. Chandler Banic delivered a walk-off single to give the Slicers the victory. Banic went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. He also earned the win on the mound, pitching 3 innings in relief of Noah Mathias. Also contributing at the plate was Caleb Rettinger with a 2-RBI single.

The Slicers are now 6-1 on the season (2-0 in the DAC).
