Former Porter Health Care exec is named new LaPorte Hospital CEO

Ashley Dickinson

The LaPorte Hospital Board of Directors announced April 11, 2017, that Ashley Dickinson is the hospital’s new chief executive officer. Dickinson had been chief operating officer at Porter Health Care System for the last three years.

Dickinson replaces interim CEO Gigi Fergus, who took over temporarily after former CEO Thor Thordarson resigned in September 2016. Dickinson assumes the post as questions loom about the hospital’s future after its owner, Tennessee-based Community Health Systems, was reportedly looking to sell the facility in late 2016 just months after it had acquired it. Community Health had pledged to build a new LaPorte facility but has not announced any plans regarding when or where that will take place. Staff reductions have also been reported in the past year.

In a hospital board press release, Dickinson said: “Over the last year, I’ve gotten to know many of the talented physicians and caregivers in LaPorte and I know how seriously they take their responsibility to care for their community. LaPorte Hospital has a strong tradition of delivering quality, compassionate care, and I am honored to support this important work and be able to help elevate acute care services available to the LaPorte community.”

“Ashley is the right fit for LaPorte given her expertise in recruiting providers, overseeing major capital projects and focusing on quality,” Mark Kosior, board of trustees chairman, said in the release. “We look forward to working with her to move our plans forward to enhance how we care for our community.”

Before her position at Porter, Dickinson was COO at Northeast Regional Medical Center, a 93-bed teaching hospital with a trauma center in Kirksville, MO. She holds master’s degrees in Health Administration and Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Oklahoma State University.

Congrats Ashley on your new role. I’m sure you have your work cut out for you.
Hopefully the billing Dept can by straightened out soon.
We have been trying to my elderly parents and my account straight for over a year. They just don’t know what they are doing after many repeated calls, and even stopping into the billing office. It’s pathetic to say the least. Good luck!
