April 13, 1917 — The government takes up in extreme earnestness today plans for averting a disastrous shortage of food among the entente allies and in the United States.

April 13, 1967 — There are 12,130 LaPorte persons registered to vote in the May 2 primary election, more than 2,000 above the registration for the comparable 1963 spring municipal election.

April 13, 1992 — Celebrations at 717 Michigan Ave. have chocolate and balloon bouquets for Secretaries Week.

April 13, 2007 — Jason Beadles becomes the fifth soldier with LaPorte County ties to die in the Mideast.
