Sewer line repair work continues on Weller Avenue

If you’re wondering why part of Weller Avenue has been closed for a few days, it’s a serious sewer line problem.

City of LaPorte Wastewater Director Jerry Jackson updated the mayor’s office April 18, 2018, on the work, saying the sewer line failed at the point where a vertical tap line entered the main, causing the tap to crash to the bottom of the pipe and block flow. This happened in the area of Weller and Kenwood Street.

Nearly a full truckload of sand has been removed from the broken line. Tree Mann took down two large maple trees in city tree lawns that were in the way of excavation. H&G Plumbing is also working at the site.

Repair of the sewer should be completed April 19 and street repair will follow, hopefully being completed April 20.

I’m glad the city was able to find the problem before we had a major issue. The H&G guys were very professional and informative when I talked with them. Having the road closed for a few days was a bit inconvenient but necessary I look forward to the job being completed. Great job to the city and H&G for getting right on it.
