Moments in Time, April 21

April 21, 1917 — A near-tornado whips LaPorte. Sections of the Rumely Oil Pull Plant buildings were unroofed and the roof was entirely lifted from the Niles & Scott foundry. There was no clashing of the elements in Michigan City.

April 21, 1967 — The old Allis-Chalmers overhead walkway over Madison Street will be the first thing to go Monday when demolition begins to create a site for the new LaPorte Hospital.

April 21, 1992 — The Supreme Court hears arguments over a restrictive Pennsylvania abortion law, with the future of legalized abortion nationwide potentially at stake.

April 21, 2007 — Local police say that some drug paraphernalia commonly used to smoke crack are readily available at some local convenience stores.
