Information and photo provided

Visitors to the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum in April 2017 came from eight states, 10 Indiana counties, Brazil and Sweden. Tours included a homeschool group, Door Prairie Adventist Christian School, Kingsbury third graders, and the Bartholomew County Historical Society.

Staff and volunteers attended the first Volunteer Fair, sponsored by Leadership LaPorte County. Curator Susie Richter and County Historian Fern Eddy Schultz were interviewed on WIMS Radio. A volunteer luncheon was held in honor of National Volunteer Month. A tour of the newly refurbished LaPorte County Public Library was the program for the historical society’s April general meeting.

Upcoming events

A fundraiser will take place at Buffalo Wild Wings in LaPorte on June 7. A percentage of sales from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. will be given to the historical society to help preserve the history of LaPorte County.

The summer display from June through August will focus on the historical society’s quilt collection.

An exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entering World War I continues through the end of the year. Memorabilia is being rotated every few months.

School tours are continuing through May. Now is the time to book group tours.
