UPDATE: 1 arrested for LaPorte Citgo robbery on April 18

Richard Taylor Jr.

Information from LaPorte Police

One man has been arrested and charged with robbery of the Citgo gas station at 104 E. Lincolnway, LaPorte, on April 18, 2017. The man is identified as Richard A. Taylor Jr., 26, of Michigan City. Taylor was being held in LaPorte County Jail.

Taylor was allegedly the man who robbed the station at about 3 a.m. April 18; he was armed and demanded money, then fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

No word from police on whether Taylor is also suspected as being one of the robbers of the same station on April 10, 2017. In that robbery, two armed men, both black, escaped with cash. A short time later that same morning, men matching that description broke into a house on Jefferson Avenue and stole food.

Anyone with information is asked to contact LaPorte Police Det./Cpl. Brett Airy at 219-362-9446 Ext 205.

Shame on the owner of this Citgo station. If you are not smart enough to put in a better security system and more cameras outside, you deserve what’s happening to you. I mean really, how many times do you need to be robbed?
Twice now the clerk/s couldn’t confirm if the robbers got away on foot or in a vehicle. No cameras outside???
I feel bad for the police having to constantly deal with this same location.

c’mon Man!!! this is very suspicious. I still feel no need to be open that late-only attracts trouble. I seem to remember an all night eatery that had a cop on duty after midnite.

Close the darned place down by 10 p.m.! Geez, what does it take to knock some sense into the owner? You’re just begging to be robbed at that hour.

While everyone is busy blaming the victim, how about we think about the person(s) doing the crime? Once caught the system in La Porte county will allow the bad guy to plead in to a lesser included offense so that the Prosecutors conviction rate is high and the judges do not have cases overturned.

Weapon involved cases have no reason to be plea bargained. Try them or set them free. If convicted no suspended sentences. Give them what they deserve. three hots and a cot.

Isn’t it funny how we are blaming the station owner , instead of the robber with a gun , lets catch the bad guy .

If they had a better security system in the first place with cameras, etc,,,the cops would be able to catch the bad guy…also may prove as a deterrent….

Judge, how long do you think it will take to plea bargain this away?

I will be surprised if the arrested party serves any time outside of the county Jail. Our judges in this county do not take victims rights into account. Only poor little (insert name) “Society failed him/her so badly.” Armed robbery? max sentence.

That’s the same guy that was arrested for heroin on 13th St. on April 21. The system has some flaws but to have him as a suspect for 2 other robberies and for heroin possession and to have him back on the streets only to be arrested again…. Something is not right here.
