Information and photos from LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office

A truck-car crash with reported minor injuries occurred late Friday afternoon, May 5, 2017, at U.S. 20 and CR 400 West. At roughly 4 p.m. a westbound truck reportedly struck the car, which was turning onto CR 400 West. The impact caused the car to go into the eastbound lane and get struck by a semi.

Traffic was backed up in the area as emergency responders from LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, Center and Springfield townships fire departments, and LaPorte County EMS worked the scene. However, as of about 5:30 p.m., CR 400 West and all lanes of U.S. 20 were reopened.

I’m with you. I thought the same thing. That’s amazing that no one in that mangled car was killed.

To survive a double whammy impact by two semi trucks on Hwy. 20, (aka The carnage corridor) and survive it, only to receive minor injuries is miraculous. If I could offer a bit of advice, when stopped on Hwy. 20 to make a left turn, Never Ever turn your wheels to the left, until you are actually negotiating your left turn. with such a high probability of being rear ended by a distracted driver lollygagging along in the left lane, you will at least stay in your direction of travel lane, when you get rear ended.
