May 12, 1917 — Death hovers near at the parsonage of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in LaPorte. Even before the sun sets today the spirit of the Reverend Father George M. Schramm may have taken its departure for another home.

May 12, 1967 — The 1967 snowstorms drained $862,000 from the LaPorte district budget.

May 12, 1992 — LaPorte entrepreneur James Fleming is named one of the nation’s three top small business owners by the U.S. Small Business Administration. He is the founder and president of Aero Metals Inc.

May 12, 2007 — William Mikula earns the rank of Eagle Scout.
