May 15, 1917 — A British steamer is sunk by a German submarine. Of the dead, 44 were seamen and 48 passengers.

May 15, 1967 — America’s astronauts will wear fire-resistant underwear and space suits made of glass when they go into space next year.

May 15, 1992 — The Slicers baseball team wins over the Merrillville Pirates, keeping LaPorte in the thick of the Duneland Conference title chase with an 8-2 mark.

May 15, 2007 — Record high gas prices have residents seeking relief and someone to blame. People are afraid it’s going to get up to $4 a gallon.
