May 19, 1917 — The grim work of war goes forward at top speed. In exactly 17 days, men between the ages of 21 and 30 must record themselves for military service.

May 19, 1967 — Bastian-Morley, the 54-year-old hot water heater manufacturer at 200 Truesdell Avenue in LaPorte, will be out of business after next week. An auction will be held under the Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Act.

May 19, 1992 — The Kennedy family is upset about the airing of JFK autopsy photos.

May 19, 2007 — The Simpsons” heads for its 18th season.
