Hundreds packed Holy Angels Cathedral in Gary to watch the ordination of two young hometown men to the Priesthood. Father Nate Edquist of LaPorte, son of Dr. Daniel and Janice Edquist, and Michigan City native Father Gregory Bim-Merle, son of Matthew and Lucia Bim-Merle, were ordained by Bishop Donald J. Hying during the Ordination of a Priest Mass Saturday, May 20, 2017.

The two newly ordained priests celebrated their first Mass Sunday afternoon, May 21. Father Bim-Merle celebrated his Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in LaPorte, while Father Edquist celebrated his first Mass at his home parish, St. Peter Catholic Church in LaPorte. Father Nate will be assigned to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chesterton, IN, and Father Greg will be at St. Michael the Archangel in Schererville, IN.

Dr. and Jan, congratulations on Nate’s ordination. You have reason to be very proud. I remember watching your children grow when I was working at the old LaPorte Clinic.

We are so proud to have an ordained priest from St. Peter Church. So fabulous! Too bad Father Nate can’t be @our church, since the shortages of priests. Congratulations to Fr. Nate and family. You should be so proud of yourselves.

  10. I was in Lexington, KY on Saturday celebrating the ordination of a friend from St. Meinrad. While there, it occurred to me that we were likely celebrating ordinations at the same time! Please know of my continued prayers for your families! May God bless Fr. Nate and Fr. Greg!
