UPDATE: Suspect in May Burger King shooting surrenders to police


UPDATE JUNE 13, 2017:  Suspect Deiondrai  Thompkins surrendered himself to police on June 12. He is formally charged with attempted murder, a level 1 felony, aggravated battery, a level 3 felony, and two counts of criminal recklessness, a level 5 felony.


Michigan City Police are searching for a 20-year-old employee of the Burger King at 3956 Franklin St. after the man reportedly shot and wounded a 17-year-old co-worker outside the restaurant Wednesday night, May 10, 2017.

The suspect is identified as Deiondrai Thompkins of Michigan City, who is wanted on one count of Attempted Murder, Level 1 felony; one count of Aggravated Battery, Level 3 Felony, and 2 counts of Criminal Recklessness, Level 5 felonies.

Police have not identified the victim, who sustained two gunshot wounds and was taken to Franciscan St. Anthony Health and later released.

The shooting occurred at about 8:15 p.m., then the suspect fled.
