The LaPorte Park and Recreation Department held the 40th annual Walt Thode Baseball Classic Tournament on Saturday, June 10, 2017. VFW and Legion Riders advanced to the final championship game held at Lions Field under the lights. Legion Riders came from behind to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, sending the game into extra innings before scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to win 6-5. After the game, Tyler Troy of Legion Riders was awarded the John R. Weeks Award as the game’s MVP.
