Original press release from LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office:

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted child abduction that occurred in the Fish Lake area in east central LaPorte County Thursday evening, June 29, 2017.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call at 6:13 p.m. from a resident in the 7400 E block of Ind. 4. Upon arrival they learned that the homeowner had been in the yard with his 1-year-old son nearby. A man approached from a vehicle that was parked near the end of the driveway, presumably broken down, and asked the homeowner for some water. The homeowner obliged and when he returned outside the suspect was attempting to put the child in a duffel bag. The homeowner confronted the suspect and physically assaulted him, then took his son into the home. When he went back outside to confront the suspect, the man was fleeing in his vehicle.

The suspect was described as white with beard stubble, wearing a white T-shirt and gray camouflage shorts. The vehicle was described as a silver or gray 1990s minivan.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 219.326.7700.

Thank God that scumbag didn’t get away with that child.
Let’s hope the police find him.
Unfortunately, pediphiles and child molesters seem to be abundant in the Fish Lake area.

I keep wondering why a parent would go in the house and leave a one yr old child out side with a stranger. Even if there was no stranger, who leaves a one year old outside alone? Something doesn’t add up here. Maybe the news report has got it wrong, but I just found that scary.

I work with the sister/aunt, and she told me that the water was just inside the doorway, he opened the door to reach inside to get it and as he was doing so that’s when the guy grabbed her nephew. Thank goodness he was able to get his son back, that’s scary for any parent to go thru.

Why the Duffel bag as well , seems fishy .. why spend time. Shoving a child into a duffel bag instead of grabbing it and running. Doesn’t make sense to me. Why the duffel bag?? Just why?

Perhaps he wanted the child secured because he couldn’t watch the child and drive the van too? No one would see the child in a duffle bag.
No matter what the guys motive was he needs to be put into a bag and beat like a pinata..

Those who seem to be arm chair detectives out there that wish to tell the police what is wrong or right with this incident are probably the same people who screamed for the arrest and conviction of someone who was later proved to not be involved in a homicide.

Instead, I suggest that we offer thanks that this young man is safely in the arms of his dad and mom.

oldskule-it’s an opinion forum. others have as much right to speak as you do. I am sure everyone is glad the child is safe.

I’m sorry but if I walked outside to see some guy try shoving my boy into a bag, not only would I have physically assaulted him. He wouldn’t have made it back to his van. . And to leave your kid outside in presence of a stranger.. Is odd.. I wouldn’t do that unless I knew them… Jus my opinion.

This family with the baby are good people of their community. The blaming of the victims is unjust. Find the man who did the crime. The discription of the man eerily resembles that of the murder suspect who killed the two little girls not so long ago. hmmm

Just to clear something up, he was still outside, the water he grabbed was just inside the doorway, I work with his sister and the little boy was right next to him.

    Let’s try this again.

Not pointing fingers and the dad gave great details about the suspect and his vehicle, but didn’t get a plate number, let alone a partial plate number? Find this sicko!
