July 15, 1917 — Dr. George Michaelis is the new imperial chancellor of Germany.

July 15, 1967 — National Guardsmen and police firing rifles and submachine guns battle snipers in Newark, N.J., the riot-torn city of 400,000. Twelve persons, including a policeman, are shot and killed.

July 15, 1992 — Ross Perot abandons his once-flourishing independent drive for the White House.

July 15, 2007 — Former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson is buried in the Johnson Family cemetery in Stonewall, Texas.
