July 17, 1917 — The British Royal House is now known as the House of Windsor. The title was changed from Saxe-Coburg.

July 17, 1967 — Rioting convicts set fire to their wooden barracks in a remote prison camp in Florida. Thirty-seven of them die, 14 escape, and six are severely burned.

July 17, 1992 — Bill Clinton accepts the Democratic presidential nomination and promises a new brand of government. Al Gore is the Democratic vice presidential candidate.

July 17, 2007 — Arsons at St. Joseph School, First United Methodist Church and LaPorte County Public Library could be connected.
