The City of LaPorte Enterprise Zone Board is offering entrepreneurs a unique opportunity to team with the board in revitalizing a downtown property.

The enterprise zone board has acquired the building at 518 Lincolnway (see photo), located on the south side of the street, for $65,000. Now it is inviting potential business owners to submit a Request for Proposal. The proposal “is the beginning of the creation of a partnership for future investments at 518 Lincolnway,” according to a press release from the board.

“The City of LaPorte Enterprise Zone 518 Lincolnway Request for Proposal is a vital step in the ongoing community effort to grow and re-energize the heart of downtown LaPorte,” said Michael Riehle, enterprise zone board president.

The Request for Proposal aims to maximize the opportunities for new business to enter the downtown LaPorte market while minimizing the start-up building costs. Specifically, the zone board is seeking business owners, developers and/or visionaries to add entertainment, dining and/or retail offerings to downtown LaPorte.

The zone board is hosting an opportunity to view 518 Lincolnway on Aug. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. Request for Proposal responses will be accepted through Aug. 31.
