Aug. 5, 1917 — Company B First Indiana Infantry reported at the armory after the siren call at sharp 7 o’clock.

Aug. 5, 1967 — In a freak accident, an errant car and a heavily loaded dump truck demolish the Sumarita tavern at the intersection of Johnson Road and U.S. 20.

Aug. 5, 1992 — Every year the LaPorte City Police Department sends its officers through a training course with the assistance of its insurance carrier. The results are usually few accidents and lower premiums.

Aug. 5, 2007 — Katie Kruse wins the annual draft horse colt contest. She receives a new draft horse to train. Her horse had died of colic during the fair three days earlier.
