Aug. 7, 1917 — Ex-President William Howard Taft, who spoke at a peace league meeting in Kansas last night, is ill and under the care of physicians at a hotel. His condition is not serious.

Aug. 7, 1967 — An estimated $8,000-$9,000 worth of equipment was stolen from South Central School sometime early Saturday.

Aug. 7, 1992 — The U.S. Postal Service contemplates eliminating 30,000 of its 130,000 management jobs over the next three months through early-retirement offers.

Aug. 7, 2007 — Kingsford Heights honors its origins with the third annual Victory City Festival. Eleanor Roosevelt came up with the idea of Victory Cities during World War II. Kingsford Heights was the first to be built.
