2 dead, 1 hospitalized after drug overdoses Aug. 5-6

Three overdoses — one in Union Mills, one in Hanna and one in Wanatah — resulted in the deaths of two men and the hospitalization of a woman Aug. 5-6.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office and LaPorte County Drug Task Force announced the three cases:

— Mark Laskarin, 30, was found unresponsive in a bedroom of a residence in the 900 block of Second Street in Union Mills at about 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. Laskarin was pronounced dead at the scene.

— Annette Leden, 36, was found unresponsive in a vehicle and taken to a home in the 300 block of Legion Road in Wanatah at about 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. She was revived with the use of Narcan, administered by LaPorte County Emergency Medical Service, and transported to Porter Regional Hospital in stable condition.

— Robert Goldstein, 29, was found unresponsive in a bedroom of a residence in the 13000 S block of CR 400 W in Hanna at about 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 6. Goldstein was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigators with the drug task force are exploring leads in all three cases and believe that at least two of the cases may be connected,” according to a press release. “All three are believed to be opiate related, however investigators are waiting for toxicology results before making an official determination.”

A frustrated Sheriff John Boyd said: “Our narcotics investigators are working diligently to reduce the amount of drugs flowing into LaPorte County and they have had considerable success. Despite their efforts it is frustrating when we see people losing their lives to the addictions they battle. We encourage others who face these same struggles will seek help at every opportunity.”

whats gets me is one of these people have a go fund me page to pay for funeral. If you have money to buy drugs, you should have money to cover things like this.

Hey no name it’s probably the family members who started the go fund me page for help with funeral expenses.
Did you ever think that maybe the family didn’t know that they were using drugs? What would you say if this person was in your family and people are leaving nasty comments?
Humans make bad choices and these men paid for it with their lives….unless your God you shouldn’t be judging them.

“Considerable success”? The numbers seem to show different. Just like tax reform and the wall, republicans are all talk.

You know these people still have families, families that have lost someone they love, you don’t have to add comments that just cause more pain. What happened to “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything”. Think of the people left behind before making mean comments.

Oh you’re right as always, lawman. At least traffic enforcement on 20 has increased, right? That’s done a whole lot. But yes, everything is a political issue in the end. Especially when we have people in office who love to toot their own horns everyday.
