Aug. 11, 1917 — LaPorte will show its appreciation of Company B and all of the soldier boys in an open-air farewell at Fox Memorial Park.

Aug. 11, 1967 — U.S. fighter jets bomb Hanoi’s giant Doumer Bridge for the first time and send its center span crashing into the Red River.

Aug. 11, 1992 — The U.S., Mexico and Canada announce a free-trade agreement to link the three nations into the world’s largest trading area.

Aug. 11, 2007 — Barbara Morgan becomes the first teacher in space. She was chosen as the backup to Christa McAuliffe, the teacher who died in the space shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986.
