Slicers open football season by slaying New Prairie, 41-12

The Slicers’ football season opened with a decisive win over county rival New Prairie Friday night, Aug. 18, at Kiwanis Field. LaPorte defeated the Cougars 41-12.

The Slicers scored in every quarter, being especially prolific in the 2nd with 19 points. New Prairie scored 6 in the 1st quarter and 6 in the 4th.

Nolan Lorenz shone for the Slicers, scoring three touchdowns. He had 114 yards rushing on 13 attempts. Drayson Nespo also had a big night, rushing for 103 yards on 19 attempts and scored once. Detrick Merriweather and Gabe Chavez tallied one touchdown apiece. The Slicers’ balanced offense went beyond those highlights as Caleb Kuzdas, Michael Peeples and Isaac Alexander also carrying the ball.

LaPorte’s next game is Aug. 25 at Hobart.
