Aug. 23, 1917 — Chicago is the first big city to complete its draft quota for the great war.

Aug. 23, 1967 — Two mobile home courts are proposed, one on the north side of East Ind. 2 back of the Deluxe drive-in theater and the other on County Road 400 W.

Aug. 23, 1992 — Florida’s Gold Coast has the look of a ghost town as evacuated residents pour into inland shelters to wait out the strongest hurricane to menace the area in decades.

Aug. 23, 2007 — LaCrosse schools see enrollment numbers drop. There are just 14 students in 3rd through 5th grades.
