(UPDATE AUG. 25:) Michigan City man arrested in connection with death of LaPorte County woman whose body was found in ditch

UPDATE AUG. 25: A Michigan City man has been charged with altering the scene of a death and drug dealing in connection with the discovery of the body of Ashleigh Nicole Blatz, 24, of LaPorte County. Charles Williams, 66, of Michigan City, is charged with alteration of scene of death, level 6 felony; dealing in cocaine or narcotic drug, level 4 felony; and dealing in cocaine or narcotic drug, level 4 felony. 

Williams was being held at LaPorte County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.

According to court documents, Blatz died of a drug overdose at Williams’ residence and he moved her body to a Meer Road ditch. “This is an open and ongoing case,” police stressed. Williams, a “person of interest,” was interviewed by detectives Aug. 24.  

An autopsy was conducted Aug. 24 and official results are pending toxicology testing, police said.

“We want to assure the public that this was not a random act,” police said.

UPDATE AUG. 24: MCPD has identified the woman as Ashleigh Nicole Blatz, 24. “We are asking the public’s assistance for any information leading to the circumstances surrounding her death. (Phone number below). An autopsy has been ordered and the investigation is being led by Detective Sergeant Ken Havlin with the assistance of the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department.”

Press release from Michigan City Police:

The body of a 24-year-old white female from LaPorte County, was discovered at approximately 7:25 a.m. Aug. 23, 2017, on Meer Road (600 West) approximately 100 yards south of Freyer Road on the west side of the roadway.

The body was discovered by a passing bicyclist, who then waved down a passing vehicle to call 911.

The female has been identified but her name was being withheld pending notification of family.

An autopsy has been ordered and the investigation is being led by Detective Sergeant Ken Havlin with the assistance of the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department.

As this remains an ongoing investigation, no additional information will be released at this time.

    I’d be interested to know what that girl was doing in LP and especially with people like this. According to her Facebook she’s not a local and has made some…questionable…life choices. The other guy is right, say no to drugs.

      Doesn’t say she was from laporte, she was from Michigan city which is Laporte county. Either way she didn’t deserve to be dumped in a ditch. He could have called someone and possibly saved her life.

    Praying for the children left behind in this tragic loss of a mothers life. Drugs or not this is a tragedy for the family and friends close to her.
