(UPDATED) Here’s another local effort you can join to help humans, animals in Texas

UPDATE SEPT. 5: The sheriff’s office is updating information regarding the collections of supplies that are being sent to Texas. Due to the overwhelming support they have upgraded to a 53-foot van/trailer, which is so far half full. The volunteers hope to have the trailer loaded to capacity in the next 24 hours. They are no longer accepting clothes; however are asking for the following items:

Cases of water

Non-perishable food items

Baby food, wipes and diapers

Air mattresses

Batteries 

Hygiene items

Adult diapers

Pet food and supplies

Drop off sites are listed below:

Sheriff’s office press release

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is supporting a local effort to collect items for disaster relief for the citizens of Texas.

Items sought

Nonperishable food items

Water

Cleaning supplies

First aid supplies including diabetic test strips

Baby diapers, formula, bottles, baby wipes

Clothing (if donating socks & underwear, accepting only new for sanitary reasons) — all sizes adults and children

Towels, blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, wash cloths

Hygiene item including feminine products, paper supplies, bowls, plates, cups, paper towels, adult diapers

Pet supplies — dog food, cat food, cat litter, leashes, collars, carriers, kennels

Secure drop-off locations

The following secure drop-off locations are now accepting supply donations to be taken to Texas victims. No monetary donations will be accepted at these locations at this time; just supplies.

The donation list is not exclusive; organizers are willing to take anything that will fit in the trailer. The collection effort will continue until Sept. 4, at which time — if the trailer is full — the journey will begin to Texas.

    I just dropped off cleaning supplies and baby wipes, etc. The young lady thanked me (I had labeled the packages). She did mention bleach
    and white vinegar would also be helpful. Also, it was mentioned that someone donated dirty clothes along with men’s dirty underwear. I know Texans already have plenty of dirty, water logged clothes. I hope the LaPortean picked up the dirty bag for donation by mistake. The ladies, their children and the men at Family Video parking lot are working hard sorting and packing. If you can’t donate, please stop by and thank them. They are doing a wonderful service
