Sept. 5, 1917 — The Germans are keeping the Russians in a wild retreat.

Sept. 5, 1967 — It’s back to school day in LaPorte tomorrow; however, it will be an abbreviated one except for the Sacred Heart, St. Peter’s and Seventh-Day Adventist schools, which will go all day.

Sept. 5, 1992 — Operation LaPorte volunteers send their first semi truck loaded with over 31,000 pounds of food and supplies to Florida hurricane victims.

Sept. 5, 2007 — An ordinance banning smoking on all county government properties was tabled by the county commission due to questions of whether such a ban could be adequately enforced.
