What the heck are those – canoes? Sea serpents? No, just your average everyday Dragon Boats

Once again it looked like the Vikings were coming ashore as Dunebrook hosted its 4th annual Dragon Boat Races fundraiser at Stone Lake Sept. 10, 2017. In what is becoming an annual favorite, 18 teams, each made up of 22 paddlers, represented their organizations, businesses and/or families.

At the end of the racing heats, UPS reigned as champion for the 2nd year in a row. Other teams competing were: LaPorte Hospital, Franciscan Health Michigan City, American Renolit, American Licorice, New Prairie High School, LaPorte High School Chorus, Michigan City High School, LaLumiere High School, LaPorte High School Wrestling, Marquette High School, Applegate and Company, CLH, NIPSCO, Journey Church: Navigate Youth Group, First Church of God, Red Thunder, and ADS/ACME Communications. Franciscan Health Michigan City and Red Thunder were co-winners of the Spirit Award.

This year the elements cooperated perfectly as paddlers took to the provided Dragon Boats under sunny skies and mild temperatures. In the fundraiser, the boats, paddles, life vests, drum and steersmen are provided to each team. Spectators and team members also enjoyed food, a family fun area, music and more.

Dunebrook is a LaPorte County nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping children safe and providing families with the assistance needed to reduce the possibility of child abuse/neglect.
