Wowie Kazowie! Your kids can create their own comic books

How about a fun project for your kids after school? The LaPorte Park and Recreation Department offers The Comic Book Project, an after-school workshop where kids will create their own comics.
Kids will learn to plot and write a story, develop their own characters, and learn the tools and techniques of drawing and coloring a cover and storyboard for their very own comic.
The creative project also hones literacy and creativity skills.
The park department’s first workshop is offered to kids ages 9-14 and begins Oct. 2. It will be held twice a week, Mondays and Tuesdays, from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. at Cummings Lodge in Soldiers Memorial Park. Cost is $100 for 10 sessions. At the finish of the program, participants will celebrate the comic books’ creation with an exhibit and celebration at LaPorte County Public Library.
Debra Sawyer, who holds a master’s degree in art education, will lead the workshop. She has been teaching community arts for over 10 years in the region.
All participants need to bring is a sketchbook.
