Healthcare Foundation of LaPorte again offers free mammogram vouchers to eligible women

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Healthcare Foundation of LaPorte is observing that event by offering free vouchers for screening and diagnostic mammograms. The vouchers are for low-income, uninsured or underinsured women age 40 and older, as well as any women of any age who are at high risk for breast cancer.

Individuals should contact their physician’s office to see if they qualify for a free mammogram voucher. The vouchers are available through the end of December.

Any healthcare provider in LaPorte County may request a voucher for his/her patients by contacting the foundation at or 219.326.2471. Mammograms must be done at LaPorte Hospital.

The Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust awarded an $18,000 grant to the LaPorte foundation for 2017 to continue these free vouchers. The Indiana trust’s mission is to increase awareness and improve access to breast cancer screening and diagnosis throughout Indiana. The trust funds its grants through the sale of the state’s breast cancer awareness license plates. Since the plate was first made available in 2002, the program has provided nearly $4 million in grants for breast cancer screening programs to help tens of thousands of underserved Hoosier women receive the services they need.

The state trust has provided funding of over $183,000 to the LaPorte Breast Cancer Project since 2005.
