Oct. 7, 1917 — The national average yield per acre for corn is 26.5 bushels, higher than average.

Oct. 7, 1967 — Boy Scouts pick up bricks left with the razing of the Allis-Chalmers building, which formerly occupied the projected hospital location.

Oct. 7, 1992 — You’d have a better chance of bowling a perfect game, getting caught in a tornado or being burglarized than winning either of the Indiana jackpots.

Oct. 7, 2007 — Two employees of the LaPorte Wendy’s restaurant say three robbers forced them inside the restaurant’s cooler at gunpoint and took a few dollars from the safe.
