Oct. 11, 1917 — The 16 British ships sunk by German submarines last week bring the total number of British vessels destroyed in U-boat warfare up to 812 since February.

Oct. 11, 1967 — Wanatah is cordoned off by 50 police officers on a manhunt for the killer of the sheriff of Pulaski County.

Oct. 11, 1992 — In the presidential debate, Bill Clinton was aggressive and Ross Perot was funny and to the point. The odd man out was President Bush, strangely cautious, as he is trailing badly in the polls.

Oct. 11, 2007 — Some neighbors of the casino in Michigan City say construction of the casino’s parking garage and new hotel has damaged their homes.
