Blink and you miss it: Dozens cheer Holiday Train as it roars through LaPorte overnight

It was a fleeting thrill, but well worth it for several dozen people who gathered near the historic LaPorte Depot overnight to watch the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train rumble through town.

Every year the train, with cars elaborately lit up with Christmas colors and scenes, makes its way eastward and northward to Canada, dipping down into the Great Lakes region for a few days. It doesn’t stop in LaPorte but does make stops at various other places, donating to local food banks along the way.

Bob was among the crazy — er, enthusiastic — people who stayed up most or all of the night to catch the train whiz through LaPorte at about 3 a.m.

“I got there around 12:30 and people had already started to gather, much like the 4th of July Parade,” Bob said. “Under the light of the nearly full moon people gathered, chatting while waiting patiently. And the wait was worth it as the colorful train put on a display.”

Hi Bob, Terrific! Want to ask our gov and biz leaders to write a letter to CP holiday train and ask them to stop in la Porte next year so we can raise $ for our food bank? Think Mayor Krentz will go for it?
