Dec. 4, 1917 — President Wilson re-states that the U.S. intends to win the war and must at once declare war on Austria-Hungary because that nation now is a “vassal state of Germany.”

Dec. 4, 1967 — Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s decision not to become a favorite-son presidential candidate paved the way for Sen. Eugene J. McCarthy’s entrance into the Massachusetts primary.

Dec. 4, 1992 — President Bush prepares to send the first Marines to Somalia.

Dec. 4, 2007 — A teen breaks into the Center Township fire station, dons firefighting gear, hops in a pumper truck, triggers the lights, and drives off. The only thing missing was the fire.
