Dec. 5, 1917 — Four runaway boys from the Julia E. Work orphanage at Plymouth were found following railroad tracks and were picked up near Wellsboro.

Dec. 5, 1967 — LaPorte’s Frostop Drive In opens Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m.

Dec. 5, 1992 — Sen. Strom Thurmond, who turns 90 today, says, “The secret to long life is good diet, exercise and an optimistic attitude.”

Dec. 5, 2007 — Mike Fout will close the book on his LaPorte High School cross country career this weekend by racing to become a national champion.
