Springlike temperatures helped to draw a record 7,000-plus people to the annual Pioneer Land Christmas display at the fairgrounds Dec. 2-3, 2017. So many, in fact, that emergency cookie-baking sessions took place to replenish supplies for the second day.

Lack of snow and cold didn’t diminish the sparkle as lights and smiles ushered in the season at the 20th annual free event. Kids got a chance to meet with Santa and mail their Christmas lists at the post office. Warm cider and cookies were available in the log cabin and the many visitors toured the replica pioneer town and took horse-pulled wagon rides under the bright supermoon.
