Moments in Time, Dec. 7

Compiled by Mary Hedge, LaPorte County Public Library

Dec. 7, 1917 — Not less than 3,000 lives are lost in the big explosion as two ships collided in Halifax, Nova Scotia, yesterday. Scores of persons are blown to atoms. Two square miles are in waste.

Dec. 7, 1967 — Gregory A. Tuholski, 21, was killed in action in Vietnam. He was drafted into the Army in May, 1967, and had been in Vietnam since Oct. 15.

Dec. 7, 1992 — A home and a livelihood are destroyed when Leo Gunter’s Apple Barrel Bait Shop at Johnson and Holton roads is left a burnt-out shell by fire.

Dec. 7, 2007 — Property owners who owe back taxes shouldn’t expect a full rebate check—or perhaps any at all.
