Jan. 8, 1918 — President Wilson unexpectedly appears before Congress on the international situation. Hurry calls were broadcast. The result was that practically every taxicab in town was commandeered.

Jan. 8, 1968 — It was a shuddering 11-below here this morning. It was 8-below at Evansville, “way down south.”

Jan. 8, 1993 — A Catholic priest accused of molesting a teenage boy would be sentenced to four years in prison under a plea agreement entered in Marshall County, Ind., Superior Court.

Jan. 8, 2008 — Gov. Mitch Daniels appoints former LaPorte Mayor Leigh Morris as the new executive director of the Indiana Toll Road.
