Students pursuing a public service/safety career may apply for FOP scholarship

The LaPorte Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 54 has initiated a Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor police officers who have died in the line of duty, as well as those who have served. The $500 scholarship will be awarded to one LaPorte High School graduating senior who intends to enter either a public service or first responder career field. Some examples include, but are not limited to: social services, public health, public interest law services, emergency management, public education, police, fire, or emergency medical services.

Interested applicants are required to provide the following:

  • Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.
  • Two teacher recommendations, including their contact information.
  • Letter of acceptance from the student’s accredited college of choice.
  • One-page essay on why the chosen career is important to the student, and/or how the student has been impacted by the planned career.

Graduating students may pick up applications from the LaPorte High School Guidance Office. Applications are due by no later than Feb. 23, 2018.

Essays and college acceptance letters are due by March 1, 2018, and should be mailed to: LaPorte Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 54, Attn. Detective Nathan Thode, 1206 Michigan Ave., LaPorte, IN 46350.
