Ronald “Ron” Harenza, 1949-2018

Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, LaPorte, is handling the arrangements for Ronald E. “Ron” Harenza, 68, who passed away Friday, February 2, 2018.

Ron was born July 6, 1949, in LaPorte, Indiana, to Frank Harenza and Jane (Niepostyn) Worthington.

On June 26, 1971, Ron married Judy A. Bennitt, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Tara Harenza; a son, John (Holly) Harenza; two grandsons, Hayden and Brock Harenza; mother-in-law, Helen M. Bennitt of Indiana; a sister, Nancy Harenza of Willis, a brother, Mike (Chris) Harenza; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Thelma (Martin) Eigenmann; and a brother-in-law, Harold Bennitt Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; a nephew, Matt Harenza; and father-in-law, Harold Bennitt Sr.

Ron retired from New York Blower as a machinist/welder after 43 years of service. He graduated in 1967 from Rolling Prairie High School, where he and his wife, Judy, were Prom King and Prom Queen. He was also on the Rolling Prairie Class of 1967 Reunion Committee. Ron built Rolling Prairie Mobile Home Park in the 1960s, was a member of PNA and enjoyed his PNA family, was a member of Sacred Heart Church, and was a Corvette enthusiast. He enjoyed attending all of his grandkids’ events and practices; they were the love of his life.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, LaPorte. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, at Sacred Heart Church, LaPorte. Family and friends may gather at 10 a.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the Mass. Reverend Ian Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.

Contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 201 Bach St., LaPorte, IN 46350; LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter, 2852 W. Ind. 2, LaPorte, IN 46350; or VNA Hospice Home Care, 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.

    Judy, My prayers are with you. May you know that God is with you and will guide thru this time of sorrow. When you are missing Ron think of the Good time. I an sure you had many. This helped me when I lost my husband.

    From what I’ve heard, Ron was a good and funny man. I wish I would have gotten the chance to meet him, more personally.
