Michigan City High School student arrested after posting threat of school shooting

A 16-year-old Michigan City High School student was arrested Feb. 12, 2018, after posting messages on social media that suggested there would be a school shooting on Feb. 13. He also posted a photo of a gun, Michigan City Police said.

The teen, whose name was not released, was charged with a Level 6 felony count of intimidation.

Concerned students and parents alerted the MCPD about the posted threats Monday evening, Feb. 12. The posts indicated that an argument between two students was occurring with one of the students identified as a suspect in the threats.

The teen was taken into custody at 10:27 p.m. Monday and was being held in the LaPorte County Juvenile Detention Center.

“We would like to publicly thank all involved with the assistance from the Michigan City Area School system, parents, students and our community,” an MCPD press release stated. “As we always stress: Hear something, see something, say something!”
