Chris Jackson of Michigan City has announced his candidacy for the LaPorte County Council 3rd District seat. Jackson, 30, will be a candidate in the Republican Primary to be held May 8, 2018.

Jackson stated in a press release: “The people in District 3 are under-represented  by the current council member, who has served on the council for 16 years. If elected, I intend to represent our entire district, not just a small portion of it.”

(Editor’s note: Democrat Mark Yagelski is the current 3rd District council member.)

Jackson has been an active member of the LaPorte County community over the past decade. Currently on the board of Remembering Our Veterans, he was also a past board member of Relay for Life.

“I have a servant’s heart, and I serve through active membership in my church and community,” Jackson said. “After discussing my goals with friends and family, I have decided that now is the right time for me to seek to serve in a larger way by running for county council.”

Jackson is a partner in his family business, Five Jacksons, which owns and manages residential real estate. He also works full time as a show coordinator with Cort Trade Show. “In my time at Cort, I have been privileged enough to travel the country extensively and in so doing, I have witnessed the successes and failures of numerous communities.  My goal is to emulate the successes of those communities here in LaPorte County,” he said.

In 2012, Jackson was elected a Republican Party Precinct Committeeman in his home precinct in Michigan City. In 2014, he was elected as a delegate to the Republican Party State Convention. That same year, Jackson was the Republican Party nominee for Coolspring Township Trustee.
