Feb. 22, 1918 — Any wheat shortage is not due to the railways, but either to a shortage of the crop or farmers holding it up because of pending legislation that would raise the price to $2.50 per bushel.

Feb. 22, 1968 — Eldon Soetje, president of Soetje Motors Sales in LaPorte, was on a plane that was hijacked, held at gunpoint, taken to Havana, released, returned to Miami, and interviewed by the FBI.

Feb. 22, 1993 — At 64, Dr. Jack Kevorkian has helped terminal patients’ death along with lethal drugs or gas 15 times.

Feb. 22, 2008 — Lauren McQuarters, Mariah Micallef and Brittany Belkiewitz advance to the LaPorte County Spelling Bee.
